Originally supplied new in Oakland California USA. Imported by myself In 2000 & since undergone restoration by myself. As the car had spent it's life in a warm, salt free environment the chassis was in A rust & accident free condition, it has been my main aim to rust proof the car As the early chassis had little preservation done from new, this was done by a Company called Before & After (Newbury), I also spent considerable time Ensuring all box sections & cavities were protected. This is a brief explanation of what I have done to the car, all costs I have incurred I have receipts for , & as yet, I have not added it up!

ENGINE

Originally a 1976-77 2.7 911 'S' engine (larger diameter inlet & exhaust valves) with k-jet induction system. The engine was fully stripped & cleaned & cleaned again.

HEADS:- were sent to JZ Matchtec stripped, bead blasted, Sealing face (to cylinder) Machined, new valve guides fitted, reground valves & reassembled.

CRANK:- Was sent to Robert Walker Eng & reground, re nitrated & re-plugged After cleaning & polishing, checked for straightness & balance. RODS:- Were sent to Robert Walker Eng & little end & big end checked for Out off round, size & weight. & fitted with new bolts

CRANKCASES:- Were sent to Robert Walker Eng & were torqued together & the mains were line bored. To correct the effects of thermal stress. Original steel head studs were checked & retained.

CYLINDERS:- 'Mahle nickosil' Were sent to EBS Racing (USA) where the coating Was stripped of & reapplied, then diamond honed to as new condition.

PISTONS:- Were replaced with new JE forged 'RS' type 9.8 to 1 compression ratio ones With new gudgion pins & Goetze rings.

OIL PUMP:- Was inspected for shaft ware & gear damage.

CAMS:- Were also sent to EBS Racing where they were re profiled to an early 'Solex' profile (an 'S' profile with a little less overlap).

CAM GEAR:- Hydraulic cam chain tensioners are fitted along with new chains & ramps.

CAM FOLLOWERS & SHAFTS:- Were replaced with new, to match the new condition Off the cams. 'Turbo' type rocker covers are fitted.

ASSEMBLY:- The engine was reassembled using new big end & main & Cam bearings & all new gaskets. I followed the excellent book by Wayne Dempsey (Pelican Parts) of rebuilding 911 engines with it's very high attention to cleanliness.

INDUCTION:- Weber 40IDA3C carburettors are fitted, which have had new shafts & bushes & complete new jetting & having been professionally cleaned. Fuel pressure regulator with gauge is fitted, as the carburettors don't like over Pressurisation.

EXHAUST:- New Dansk stainless steel heat exchangers & a good mild steel exhaust box.

ROLLING ROAD:- Once the basic settings had been set the engine was run for 4-5 hours & then taken to Bob Watson Eng. The correct platinum plugs were fitted, timing set & correct jetting established Then tuned on the rolling road, giving an output off 194 BHP @ 5900 rpm

GEARBOX

The original type 901 5 speed box is retained with the dog leg first position. This has had the first gear assembly & synchromesh replaced, so all gears Can be selected with no grinding or jumping out of gear. The section rod oil seal & end cover gaskets were replaced with new. The gear selection linkage was overhauled with new bearings, universal joints & new rubber gaiters were fitted plus a new speedo cable was fitted.

CLUTCH:- A new Sachs clutch assembly is installed, & a new clutch release Arm pivot bolt.

DRIVE SHAFTS:- Were fully stripped & cleaned, fitted with new inner & outer CV boots & re packed with lithium grease.

SUSPENSION & STEERING

REAR: New radius arm bearings, new 'turbo' (larger dia) torsion bars & new shocks Were fitted by JAZ motor sport who also set the correct ride height of front & rear.

FRONT:- The steering rack, track rods (turbo type), bottom ball joints & shocks inserts were all replaced with new. The lower radius arm bearings & torsion bars were check by JAZ & ride height set to original settings.

BRAKES

All flexible brake lines were replaced, the master cylinder was replaced with new, The front brake callipers were replaced with new reconditioned units, new EBC front Disks were fitted along with EBC green pads & system filled with DOT 5 fluid Original rear disks are retained, with new pads.

BODY

The car was stripped back to a rolling shell, all the interior was removed, all the glass & rubbers were removed, all bumpers, trim, wings, boot, bonnet, sunroof & doors were removed. The shell and panels were moved to a paint shop close to my office (to check on daily progress) where all the paint was removed by sanding (without using paint stripper) to bare metal. Then was painted using ---- Before the shell was refitted, all the box sections & cavities were Injected with a high quality wax using compressed air All panels were re-fitted using new rubbers & seals where applicable by body shop To ensure a good fit. The car was fitted with the 'S' trim, this was replaced with new, as was all the glass rubbers, boot seals, sunroof seal etc.

INTERIOR

A compete new Southbound carpet set was fitted, new headlining & a good second hand Dash top, as the original had suffered with the Californian sun. The drivers seat was recovered with original vinyl & new door panels with original Armrests are fitted, having installed new original door membranes. The correct leather bound steering wheel is fitted & correct original gear knob. Electrical A new starter motor is fitted & reconditioned alternator & I have just installed two New correct bosch batteries. Wheels Are 6x15 fuchs which have been fully restored to original condition with an Original condition 6x15 fuch spare, all have brand new 185/70 15 tyres.
